New Delhi: As previously mentioned, there would be four teams in the Women’s Hockey India League 2024–25 instead of six. The Women’s Hockey India League 2024–25 organizers have chosen to proceed with four teams: the Soorma Hockey Club, the Shrachi Rahr Bengal Tigers, the Delhi SG Pipers, and the Odisha Warriors. Additionally, two teams—owned by the BC Jindal Group and Resolute Sports—will join the league starting in the following season.
On October 15, 2024, more than 250 Indian athletes and over 70 international players will compete in the Women’s Hockey India League 2024–25 player auction. There should be 16 Indian players among the 24 players that each club has on its roster. In order for the Hockey India League to function as a feeder system for the international arena, each franchise has to have four junior hockey players.
Three categories comprise the basic pricing for players: INR 10 lakh, INR 5 lakh, and INR 2 lakh.
Prominent Indian athletes who will be auctioned off on Tuesday include former captain and goalie Savita Punia, current captain of the Indian women’s team Salima Tete, ace drag-flicker Deepika, Vandana Katariya, and Lalremsiami.
Delfina Merino (Argentina), Charlotte Stapenhorst (Germany), Maria Granatto (Argentina), Rachael Lynch (Australia), and Nike Lorenz (Germany) are a few of the foreign players participating in the player auction.
Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey said that the Women’s Hockey India League is expected to produce new heroes among the athletes of the next generation. “We are honored to present the first women’s auction, which aims to create legacies as well as teams. In a statement, Tirkey stated, “We are thrilled to watch our homegrown talent compete against some of the top international players and produce new heroes for the next generation.”
He went on to say that the Women’s Hockey India League is expected to be a turning point in Indian hockey history. “It is anticipated that the Women’s HIL 2024–25 will mark a significant milestone for Indian hockey, contributing to its expansion on a national and worldwide level,” Tirkey said.
